ICT Group Denies worker time off to visit dying Grandfather

How does that Title grab you? Make you want to scream and pull out your hair?
I know it does to me as it directly implies to my son and his employer. My wife’s dad in pretty well on his deathbed for the Doctors told a family member to call in all the family to come to his bedside as his struggles to hold on.
My son who works for ICT Group ask for an additional day off (without pay) so he can travel out of town to have a visit with his grandfather before his pop pass on. The Company refused his request, so then he ask can he leave work early so he may go home pack and get on the road. Still the company refused. The company told my son he can have 3 days off when the grandfather passes and on his return work he has to bring in proof on his grandfather passing.
There no compassion even in Xmas season for this company and thier employee’s.

Want Better Work Teams? Hire More Women…

The Harvard Business Review recently highlighted a recent study by Professors Anita Woolley and Thomas Malone, in which the researchers studied how team/group diversification would impact overall team intelligence (you can view their explanation of the findings in Defend Your Research:  What Makes A Team Smarter? More Women ).  Big surprise to all us husbands, they found that teams with more women are smarter!  From the article: “The standard argument is that diversity is good and you should have both men and women in a group. But so far, the data show, the more women, the better.  We have early evidence that performance may flatten out at the extreme end—that there should be a little gender diversity rather than all women. You do realize you're saying that groups with women are smarter then groups with men? Yes. And you can tell I’m hesitating a little. It’s not that I don’t trust the data. I do. It’s just that part of that finding can be explained by differences in social sensitivity, which we found is also important to group performance. Many studies have shown that women tend to score higher on tests of social sensitivity than men do. So what is really important is to have people who are high in social sensitivity, whether they are men or women.”  So, why didn't the study find that regardless of women or men – that the group with just the smartest 10 people was the smartest group?   Conventional wisdom would say give me the 10 smartest people and I'll have the smartest team.  Here's the problem, in almost any example in real life, this doesn't work out.  Take the top 5 scorers in the NBA in any given year, put them on one team, and they'll almost always get beat by another team that was put together as a “team”.  There are many ingredients that need to come together to make a great team – yes, intelligence is one, but it takes more than just intelligence, and those other items are why women performed better in this study.  Here are some of the factors that the researchers pointed to of why women dominated teams performed better: Communication: women team members tend to listen more to each other Constructive Criticism: women tend to share criticism more constructively than men Open to others ideas: the women had open minds about others' ideas and theories Authority: the women weren't as autocratic as their male counterparts What this study really does is speak more about team dynamics and what makes a team successful than to the differences between men and women.  The researchers also found that extreme diversification, i.e., all women or all men teams performed the worst of all – so some level of gender diversification is needed for high performance. Not in a position to fire all of your male employees and hire more women?! Not to worry – the ingredients aren't secret, but the training of the soft skills needed to be successful might be more work than just de-manning your company and moving forward. The Cobra Group – Taking Advantage Of Young Minds

A few years ago I was looking for work in the sales and marketing industry and came across an ad on Seek.com which I applied for. After going for 2 interviews with this organisation I was introduced into a whole new world known as “The Cobra Group”.

The Cobra Group is a sales and marketing organisation that specialise in direct face to face marketing. Looking back on my time at The Cobra Group I believe that the leaders of The Cobra Group take advantage of the people in the organisation by promising them long term dreams, the end goal they promise is that one day you will be able to own your own company and have the potential to earn $100,000 per year gross, which looking back now isn’t really much at all.

The people in the organisation are not paid a wage because they are paid on a commission basis for the sales they make. We were taken on as sole contractors but never really educated on the fact that we needed to pay our own tax and superannuation.

I honestly believe that the senior people within The Cobra Organisation have set up the organisation to really only benefit themselves and the money they make and they are able to convince people to work hard by making false promises to young people.

I worked in this organisation for over 2 years and worked my absolute butt off yet however was in a worse position then when I first began because I owed a considerable amount of money to the ATO.

The only way to get ahead in The Cobra Group is by recruiting team members underneath you, the catch is the only people you can convince to walk around 8 hours a day, door knocking, selling various products and services with commission based only pay is young people, who fall for the illusion of success in the future.

I want to warn everyone out there of The Cobra Group as I see it as almost a slave labour organisation that promise dreams in the future that are very rarely reached. Has anyone else had experiences with The Cobra Group?
